Prayer Alert: Urgent Call for Intercession for Bangladesh

Riots 2024 Bangladesh
2024 Quota Reform-Bangladesh

Dear Friends and Prayer Warriors,

We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. Today, we write to you with a heavy heart and an urgent need for your prayers as Bangladesh faces a time of great turmoil and uncertainty.

Emerging Threats

Alarmingly, fundamentalist groups have infiltrated the protests, targeting minority communities, including Hindus and Christians, as well as their places of worship and education. Last night, student leaders urgently appealed to the Army Chief, President, and political leaders to safeguard these vulnerable communities. The fear and tension are palpable, and we are deeply concerned for the safety of our brothers and sisters.

Current Situation

As of yesterday, Bangladesh finds itself in a state of political crisis. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned from her position and has sought refuge in India. In her absence, the head of the Army has assumed responsibility for the nation, and an interim government is expected to be formed.

Following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation, chaos erupted. Mobs stormed the Prime Minister's residence and offices, causing widespread destruction and looting. The unrest has spread, with government party offices and houses being attacked and set ablaze across Bangladesh.

Turmoil began on July 1st when university students across Bangladesh united in protest against the government's quota system. The quota system in Bangladesh refers to the policy implemented by the government to reserve a certain percentage of public sector jobs and university seats for specific groups. The quota system has been a subject of intense debate and protest in Bangladesh. Critics argue that the system has led to inefficiency and unfairness, as it prioritizes quota recipients over more qualified candidates who do not fall into any of the reserved categories and has led to extreme nepotism.

Tensions have led to nationwide aggression, which has escalated to over 300 students and police officers losing their lives in the violence that ensued. Despite the government's attempts to impose a curfew, the students bravely continued to organize.

A Call to Prayer

We earnestly ask for your prayers for peace, protection, and wisdom as Bangladesh navigates this challenging period. Our hearts are especially burdened for the minority communities facing persecution and violence. Let us seek God’s guidance and protection over the nation, trusting that His presence can bring comfort and strength to those in need.

Please join us in daily prayer, believing that through our collective faith, God will work to bring justice, reconciliation, and hope to Bangladesh. Together, let us trust in God as our refuge and strength, confident in His ability to heal and restore.

We invite you to join our Prayer Team!

Blessings from all of us at,
