From Darkness to Light: My Journey to Christianity in Somalia

Professor Sikora

A Story of Hope and Transformation

Hello, I'm Safiya, a Somali Christian, and I want to share my story with you.

Growing up in Somalia, my life took an unexpected turn when I went to Kenya for my education. Surrounded by Christians at my school, I was captivated by their kindness, love, and peace. Their way of life made a profound impact on me, sparking a desire to understand their faith more deeply.

Back in Somalia, I couldn't shake off my curiosity about Christianity. I turned to Google, downloaded the Bible, and found an online course called

"One God, One Way"

Pastor Abdi became my guide in this spiritual journey.

As I delved into the Bible, I felt an undeniable pull towards Christianity. Despite living in a region dominated by terrorists, with no church or fellow believers, I persisted in my secret study and worship. Eventually, I mustered the courage to share my newfound faith with a few trusted friends, even though it put me at great risk.

When my family discovered my faith, they reacted with anger and threats. With the help of my brave sister, I escaped to Muqdisho. Over time, I reconnected with my mother and slowly mended my relationship with my family, though my father, a respected religious leader, remained distant.

One night, doubt crept into my heart. I prayed for clarity, and that night, I had a dream. I was in a dark, suffering place, but then I saw a bright, peaceful place filled with people in white. This dream reassured me that I was on the right path.

Now, I live with peace, love, and hope. Despite the challenges of practicing Christianity in Somalia, I hold onto patience and forgiveness. I dream of the day when Somali Christians can freely share the love of Jesus Christ and bring light to those in darkness.

Our promise is paradise. May you all be blessed!
