In Japan, many people go their entire lives without ever meeting a Christian. Chiho’s story shows how one encounter can change everything.

In Japan, it is not unusual for someone to grow up without ever meeting a Christian.
For Chiho, that was her reality.
When she left home at nineteen to study in a nearby city, she had never heard the story of Jesus. Faith, as understood in the West, felt distant and unfamiliar. Like many in Japan, she believed in spiritual forces and the presence of the divine in nature—but the idea of a personal God was difficult to grasp.
Life as a student was not easy. Money was tight, and each day brought its own challenges. One evening, she heard about a small Christian chapel that offered free meals on Tuesdays. Curious and needing a meal she decided to go.
That simple decision would change everything.
At the chapel, she encountered something she had never seen before. People spoke openly about their faith. They talked about God as if He were real, present, and personal. It felt strange, but also deeply intriguing.
Curiosity led her to take another step.
She joined a small Bible study, where a local teacher began reading the Gospel of Mark with her. The stories were simple, yet powerful. For the first time, she was introduced to Jesus—not as an abstract idea, but as a person.
Still, something held her back.
The concept of a personal God was hard to accept. In her culture, faith was often distant, woven into tradition and nature. But the idea that God could be known, that He could love, that He could come near—this felt almost impossible.
Everything changed when she read about the cross.
A Moment That Changed Everything
As Chiho read about Jesus carrying the cross to Golgotha, something inside her broke.
Here was someone who chose to suffer. Someone who gave His life—not for Himself, but for others.
In a culture where people often carry their burdens alone, this kind of love was almost unimaginable.
“A Jesus who gives Himself completely for others, that is almost unimaginable in our culture.” — Chiho
In that moment, she knew.
She wanted to belong to Him.
Not long after, when her Bible teacher asked what she thought about becoming a Christian, her answer surprised even herself: “I already am.”
Soon after, she was baptized.
Experiencing the Love of Christ
Following Jesus did not immediately make life easier.
At home, Chiho faced deep challenges. Her relationship with her brother was strained, and at times even painful. In a society where people often keep distance from others’ struggles, it would have been easy for her to face these difficulties alone.
But she didn’t have to.
Her Bible teacher and his wife welcomed her into their home. They didn’t just offer advice—they offered family.
For Chiho, this was another powerful expression of the Gospel. Not just words, but love in action.
Sharing Jesus Through Media
Years have passed since those first visits to the chapel.
Chiho completed her studies and began pursuing her passion as an artist. With encouragement from those who had supported her, she started creating illustrations and animations.
One day, she discovered a Japanese version of Bible storytelling videos online. For the first time, she saw how the message of Scripture could be shared in a way that was accessible and engaging for her own culture.
It sparked a dream.
What if more people in Japan could encounter Jesus like this?
Today, that dream is becoming reality.
Through her work with 3xM, Chiho now creates videos and social media content that introduce others to Jesus many for the very first time.
In a country where most people have never met a Christian, her work matters deeply.
One Christian Can Change a Life
Chiho’s story began with one simple encounter.
A meal.A conversation.A Bible study.
Today, she is part of a growing movement using media and discipleship to reach people across cultures.
Because sometimes, all it takes is one Christian crossing someone’s path.
Call to Action Section
For many people in Japan, a video, a conversation, or a simple invitation may be their first encounter with Jesus.
Through 3xM, local believers like Chiho are being equipped to share the Gospel in ways that connect with their culture.
